Post traumatic or blood stream source

Ceftriaxone* IV 2g 12 hourly

and

Metronidazole IV 500mg 8 hourly

and

Flucloxacillin IV 2g 4 hourly

If true penicillin / beta-lactam allergy / MRSA suspected or suspected metalwork infection:

Contact microbiology / infectious diseases unit for advice (see Appendix 6 for contact details).

Total course duration – discuss with microbiology / infectious diseases unit.

*Ceftriaxone:

• Is a protected antimicrobial - complete order form
• It must not be mixed with calcium-containing solutions, and must not be given to any patient simultaneously with calcium-containing solutions – even via different infusion lines.
