Amoxicillin IV 1g 8 hourly and Gentamicin** IV (dosing info here) Total course duration (IV and oral): 7 days and discuss with obstetrics. Do not continue IV gentamicin beyond 4 days. If true penicillin / beta-lactam allergy: Gentamicin** IV (dosing info here). Contact microbiology for oral or alternative IV options. Do not continue IV gentamicin beyond 4 days. |

IV antibiotic administration in sepsis – see figure 2. Send for culture prior to commencing treatment. Re-culture 7 days after course completion. **Gentamicin – Use the patients booking weight to calculate the gentamicin dose using the gentamicin calculator on NHSGGC StaffNet / Clinical Info page (access to GGC Sharepoint needed). If pre-pregnant BMI >30 then 5mg/kg of non-pregnant weight. Maximum gentamicin dose of 600mg. Follow GG&C gentamicin monitoring guidelines and seek further advice from pharmacy if required. |
